So, I have come to a decision/conclusion.
I truly don't LIKE 6th edition.
BUT, I didn't like 4th either...yet I was more prolific in the hobby/campaign/league side of things during 3.5 & 4th than any other before or after.
I enjoyed the hobby and socializing far more than anything vaguely competitive, and viewed tournament play almost solely as an avenue to meet new players/play more games.

Finally understanding the source of my recent frustration(s) has allowed me to let go of my growing 40k disdain, and embrace what was once the entire reason for my involvement.
5e was a grand, competitive, experiment for me.
Like MTG & SFB before it, I proved (to myself, if no one else) that I had an exceptional grasp of the game's finer points and nuances, and could run with (and occasionally beat down) the big dogs
...now it is time to return to my roots.

Green stuff,
Bitz,
and model choices made because no matter how much they 'suck', dammit...they look effing cool!

yes and no,
I'm just going to stop worrying about it.
I don't like the system's current underpinnings, but I disliked it strongly in 4th (and 3.5 up to a point).
The fundamental framework is still '40k', but the delivery is skewed against balance and care (again, similar to some dominant play styles then).
Now it's overwhelming numbers (or deathstars), and flyers.
Then it was static (primarily) foot shooting walls and VP denial.
Diversity appears to be increasing for the nonce, but the lists will become overwhelmingly similar as the edition develops (sure, you may use different books/units...but the play will become simply different flavors of the same thing...think MTG during it's competitive typeII heyday. Turbostasis for years, with everything being either a variant of that, or it's counter).
Coupled with the fact that newer books are being built around the concept of allies, as opposed to complimentary for those (forcing you to utilize them, as opposed to merely making them another viable option).
It's becoming RPS based at its best,
just like the height of 4e tourney.

So no, I'm not going to stop playing in tourney,
I'm just going to stop caring about the score...and start caring about what MODELS (& theme) I'm putting down.

(and yes, you still have to return my aircraft Razz ).

More like 'welcome back', but I get yer point. Very Happy

I think 5e may have been great for my 'game', but it was honestly bad for my 'hobby'.
I would like to see a balanced edition from that perspective...but with GW, I have my doubts.

Still, already began that tweak.
pushing my Pre Heresy back to the fore, and ramping up my CSM (now csm/daemon hybrids).
Going to bring my DE and Sisters back out to start working on, and forge ahead with my DW/DblWing regardless of the Deathwing hits with the new book.

It's all about what I WANT to see on the table again, not what works out best for me. It'll actually be worse for my budgeting, but we'll see! Laughing
