| You missed some fun games but a couple wieners took some spam-tastic lists so next time just come with the gloves off.
Missions were good. His proposed new missions sound just as good.
Typical top table douche-baggery as well. The 10 mins I stood there those two didn't stop. The eventual winner is lucky he wasn't talking to me the way he was that other guy or he might not be saying a whole lot shortly after.
I enjoyed myself though. Took a goofy list that my buddies all laughed at but in the spirit of fun and not beardy, double deathstars and some summoning was actually quite boring and very little fun at all. I had all of 5 units to use and about an hours worth of paperwork to maintain them.
Next tourney might be LoW open so...

| Just visited the CAG forums and I can see a ton of references to the SPAM thing. I totally miss understood the intent of it and after chatting with Keebler mon-Tuesday, I know we both pulled punches on lists from a competitive nature. He even ran highlander for this one as to not SPAM anything.
Not bitter, it's just dice at the end of the day but totally glad I went today. We both said as we were leaving that our lists are going to be waaaay different next time.
I mean, there was a BA with the new T1 assault build spamming drop pods and storm Ravens. Glad he lost in the end but I'm surprised he wasn't asked to change his list due to SPAM by definition or your anti-cheese intent. The space wolves drop pod list was the same exact thing. Only real feedback was that the missions were good and 40k fluffy. Also, drop the SPAM thing, no one got it.

| SPAM is a hard thing to define. If I am interpreting intent correctly, the statement was more an admonition to avoid playing pure competitiveness just for the sake of overbearing the table, and focus on the 'story' of the universe.
It's one of the reasons I was a proponent of returning to 'Composition' scoring with the advent of 6th(7th). It defines and spells out what is considered unbalancing elements, and rewards those that play 'within the story' as opposed to going against it solely for the sake of winning at all costs.
I'll reiterate that here, but Dave was attempting (per my interpretation) to encourage that without making people feel falsely 'forced' to play in a sandbox of 'his' making.
It's simply necessary (IMHO) in this new world we play in, to do this...but that's me.

| (me, I had a 30k Iron Hands list ready to roll. not the least bit efficient, nor modern Raukaan build, but fun as hell in my opine) | |

| I get it now. Totally agree with the notion but some ignored it, some over compensated for it, and others didn't seem to care one way or the other. There was so little focus on the "restriction", that Dave mentioned opening it up to no holds barred action next time.
I'm happy about this particularly because if I was up against that BA or SW list I wouldn't have had a good time. I think those guys bring 90% the same list next time reguardless of the "restriction" being lifted. Same goes for the asshat chaos marine winner. I know that guy comes with the same list. (Though his did have internal fluff and balance despite being strong nontheless. Now someone might say I took two deathstars but they were ultra flawed stars. The concil never rolled on invisibility nor had H&R and kept the crappy witchblades. Farsightbomb blows now that Knights are around and i took no interceptor, no spitfire, and no H&R or 2+ armor saves nor models.
Matter of fact, Dave I'm throwing down the gauntlet against these shmoes next time I'm there.

| You may not have seen my post here... - Quote :
- I regret using the term "spam", and I am sorry.
I want balanced, fun games. I hoped very few restrictions and different missions would create a fun tourney and with some balance. I think overall the majority of players came to play and had fun - not crush their opponents. The championship match was extremely intense. Partly, because the tournament winner was overconfident in his understanding of the rules and insistent. A few rules he did have wrong. My hope is that a hobby shop or local game store tourney is fun. Maybe I drop the fee to $5 or $2. Maybe I put extreme restrictions on list. I don't know, but I don't think I can make it d-bag proof.

| Dave that is exactly how you build a gaming community. I applaud you for that. I did miss it, having only looked at other websites after everyone up there made mention of which websites they frequent.
Glad we both noticed that final table and yes, that is not how anyone wants to see a champ crowned. Really looking forward to the next one. Hopefully I'll be off yet again and can attend. Thanks for running the event. Had a good time myself.

| At Painnen...I have played the BA guy at EGC. He's a strong player and knows the rules. He's competitive but fun to play. His list was IBA codex detachment plus the WD formation. Not sure I would call it spam but I'm the one that screwed up by putting that in the tourney restrictions live and learn. The next tournament should be in March and I will do my best to keep it real. | |
