I found this diagram to help with list building in 7e.
Is it true that the an allied detachment can not be the same faction as the Warlord? So, If had a CAD of Faction A and it was my primary detachment (contained the Warlord), my allied detachment can't be Faction A also. It must be something different. I do NOT think that is correct. Help me out here.

BRB pg 122
Allied Detachment "...must have different Faction to any of the units in your Primary Detachment"
An allied detachment must be different. SM have the codex exception.
How is the following Nova list legal? I assume because BeLakor has no faction and he and the nurglings make up an allied detachment? I stripped out the upgrades and specifics. It is an 1850pt list
HQ: Kairos Fateweaver ; Warlord HQ: Keper of Secrets Troops: Pink Horors of Tzentch x11 Troops: Pink Horors of Tzentch x11 Heavy Support: Daemon Prince Heavy Support: Daemon Prince HQ: Be'Lakor Troops: Nurglings x3

"Be'lakor is an Army List Entry that can be selected as an HQ choice in a detachment chosen from either Codex: Chaos Daemons or Codex: Chaos Space Marines"

I guess another was around allied detach must be different, is to take 2 CAD. The only hangup would be having min of 2 troops in each, but otherwise you could get almost what a allied detachment provides.
