Okay, so yesterday was the last of the tournaments for the Krystal Keep.
I was looking forward to getting together with friends, and one last hurrah. I tried to keep it upbeat, but never shook the pall of 'sad' that hit me when I found out (this week) that the last two chances for them to be bought out, and kept open, failed.
It did colour my day, but I still smiled at all my opponents. (and was disappointed I didn't get an opportunity to stuff it to Edge one last time!)
I brought;
Dark Eldar
5x warriors
Raider(nightshield)
3x wracks
Venom(dbl splinter cannon/flickerfield/nightshield)
3x wracks
Venom(dbl splinter cannon/flickerfield/nightshield)
Razorwing(flickerfield/nightshield)
not the most efficient, by any stretch, but I really love the Razorwing model and had to play with it.
Game 1;
vs Orks (big mob shootas, big mob grots, 3x killa kan mob)
this was a 'score points for units in enemy dep zone' scenario.
He went first, and deployed...and we danced.
I went up one table edge, wiping out his grots in one shooting phase.
he tried to corner my fast units, chasing them around with kans.
we ended reversed on table sides, with me losing both venoms and the raider.
I scored 3 units in his dep zone, he scored one.
Win.Too few lance units made it nearly impossible for me to kill kans (kan walls were my biggest fear, to be honest, with this build) and I killed only one to a glance immobilized.
Game 2;
vs Orks (oh the hate).
20 grots
3 units of 3x Kans...
Remember what I said? ark!
this was capture and control. he charged, ran, charged, ran (after siezing on me).
in the end, he had 8 kans in my dep zone, I had a unit of Wracks, a Venom and razor in his.
as neither of us had troops on objectives, it was a draw.
Rules of the tourney, NO DRAWS! (Jim hates them...and I agree). We rolled off, he won!
It was great to play John, we always massacre the SNOT outta each other.
LossGame 3;
vs Necrons.
4x Destroyers (1x hvy)
8x Tesla Immortals
20x warrios (may have been fewer, big unit though.
Annihilation again.
It was very quick. he advanced the destroyers to try and annihilate a venom/crew...he whiffed.
I annihilated the destoyers, and then spent the rest of the game outside 24" wiping out the Immortals.
'Nuff said?
he took it in stride, and busted my chops (with a smile) the rest of the day!
WinGame 4;
Orks
25 or 30 (never clear) boyz with a tooled nob.
7(ish) tooled up Nobz squad (gear was never clear...seemed to 'change' between matches...or just on me, not sure).
Defender on center objective, attacker coming from 6" of table edge.
This was my only bad game.
I can't identify all the cheats, but there were constant movement fudgings, 'floating' wounds on the Nobz(a few seemed to go missing) and some other things I may have missed.
I didn't get into it, just took it, as this was the last event Jim was running...and didn't want to give him a headache (and it was supposed to be a 'fun' event).
Suffice it to say, I lost.
LossGame 5;
IG
Hydra
2x Chimera with melta vets
1x 5man Roughriders.
Annihilation with Night fight starting on turn 3.
he went first, and I reserved.
Nothing came on (for me) until turn three.
With the night fight advantage, I came on quickly...blew up a unit, and tucked back into a corner. He never got range, and the game ended 7 minutes in.
I kinda felt douchey for this one, but with a Hydra I just had to stay in reserves...
WinOverall fun time, got to play some games AND dust off my DE (which I hadn't touched since 'Ard Boyz).
Wish I could do it again, with Jim (and friends) at the Keep...but that is not meant to be.
Overall wins were a 4 way split, as 4 players went 4-1.
Edge (ML)
John W
Stephen
(???)
Edge really pulled this one, and should have had 5-0, but he can tell that story if he wants.
